Frequently Asked Questions About SSE

How do I get a refund and when will it come through?

You will need to take a meter reading to make sure the balance on your SSE account is correct. If it is and you are in credit, the company can offer you a refund. The only time this will not be the case is if you are due a bill soon, or the account is intended to cover your winter gas usage. You can call the SSE phone number to ask for a refund. It should only take between 10 and 14 days.

What do I do if I’m having trouble with my bill? SSE contact

You should receive a bill from SSE every three months or every six months if you are a Direct Debit customer. Checking when you were last billed will give you an idea of when your next one is due. If you have not received it, give SSE a phone call. You should also contact their customer service team if you do not think the amount is correct.

How do I change to a better tariff?

Finding the best tariff relies on your own particular lifestyle and energy consumption. However, there may be a better deal available. You can visit the website and use their calculator by entering your postcode. Existing customers will have this automatically updated to their account.

More Information About SSE And Its Services

SSE, founded in the late 1990s with headquarters in Perth, Scotland,  is the second largest supplier of natural gas and electricity in Great Britain. It’s also the largest generator of renewable energy in the country as well. SSE incorporates the energy brands SWALEC, Atlantic Electric And Gas, Southern Electric and Scottish Hydro. It is considered to be one of the Big Six companies in the United Kingdom which dominate the energy market.

In May 2012, SSE were fined following a case at Guildford Crown Court for misleading customers during door-to-door sales. The case was brought to court by Surrey Trading Standards who later won their case. SSE employees were found to have breached the code of practice for the industry. The fine came to £1.25 million. They were also fined another £10.5 million by the industry regulator Ofgem for what they described as “prolonged and extensive” failures in sales standards.

SSE Phone and Broadband

SSE also provides telephone and broadband package services. If you are already an SSE energy customer, you may be eligible to get discount on a phone and broadband bundle. You can choose from ultrafast or superfast broadband, depending on your budget and needs. Contracts typically run for 18 months and include line rental costs. You may also have to pay installation charges.

Home services

SSE Home Services can help give you confidence that your boiler and heating system is covered should anything go wrong. Depending on which product you choose, the cost of calling someone out to look at/repair your boiler can be included. All packages also include an annual service, to make sure your heating system is running effectively and efficiently. You don’t even need to be an SSE energy customer to get home services cover. All SSE engineers are registered Gas Safe and the helpline is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
