How do I get a refund and when will it come through?
You will need to take a meter reading to make sure the balance on your SSE account is correct. If it is and you are in credit, the company can offer you a refund. SSE, founded in the late 1990s with headquarters in Perth, Scotland, is the second largest supplier of natural gas and electricity in Great Britain. It’s also the largest generator of renewable energy in the country as well. SSE incorporates the energy brands SWALEC, Atlantic Electric And Gas, Southern Electric and Scottish Hydro. It is considered to be one of the Big Six companies in the United Kingdom which dominate the energy market.
In May 2012, SSE were fined following a case at Guildford Crown Court for misleading customers during door-to-door sales. The case was brought to court by Surrey Trading Standards who later won their case. SSE employees were found to have breached the code of practice for the industry. The fine came to £1.25 million. They were also fined another £10.5 million by the industry regulator Ofgem for what they described as “prolonged and extensive” failures in sales standards.
